Private day tour to Fatima, Batalha, Alcobaça e Óbidos
During this 9hour tour you’ll be able to explore some of the most iconic places in Western Portugal.
This full day private tour will let you discover spiritual Fatima, a catholic pilgrimage site visited by over 6 million people every year, either for a pilgrimage or just a visit. The present-day Sanctuary began as a small chapel in the place where in 1917 Our Lady appeared in front of now Saints, Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco.
From there we are going to the Monastery of Batalha that is one of the seven wonders of Portugal, and was considered a Unesco World Heritage site. With its Portuguese gothic architecture, it is an impressive masterpiece. Built near the site of a battle ground where heroes and kings became legends, and Portugal’s independence was put to the test.
The next stop is to Lunch in a local restaurant with traditional Portuguese cuisine and wine from the region.
In the afternoon let’s follow the road south to Alcobaça, a village founded by the monks of the order of Cister, and visit the magnificent Monastery of Saint Mary, where the country’s most romantic love story lies buried in the stone.
Last but not least, let’s follow the road south and finish our afternoon in Óbidos. This town of the Queens of Portugal, famous for its cherry licquor, and a truly royal hidden gem that remains a well-preserved example of medieval architecture; its streets, squares, walls and castle are a popular tourist destination you just can´t miss.
